ENGLISH TASK : PASSIVE VOICE

Change the active into passive voice!

1. My mother bought many oranges.
Passive voice : Many oranges were bought by my mother

2. Dolph will play the guitar at the stage.
Passive voice : The guitar will be played by Dolph at the stage

3. Sandra uses the glasses every day.
Passive voice : The glasses are used by Sandra everyday

4. The students spoke English at class last night.
Passive voice : English was spoken by the students at class last night

5. We have watched the movie.
Passive voice : the movie have been watched

6. Gina does this assignment.
Passive voice : this assignment is done by Gina

7. They don’t do this assignment.
Passive voice : this assignment is not done

8. Does Lucy do this assignment?
Passive voice : Is this assignment done by Lucy?

9. The lion eats meat.
Passive voice : The meat is eaten by the lion

10. The cow doesn’t eat meat.
Passive voice : meat is not eaten by the cow

11. Does that animal eat meat?
Passive voice : Is meat eaten by that animal?

12. We watch a movie.
Passive voice : a movie is watched

13. I don’t watch the news.
Passive voice : the news is not watched

14. Does John watch the big matches?
Passive voice : Are the big matches watched by John?

15. My mother makes some cakes.
Passive voice : Some cakes are made by my mother

PASSIVE VOICE (MANY TENSES)

Change these bellow sentences into Passive Voice

1.   You eat a bar of white chocolate    
= A bar of white chocolate is eaten
 
2.   I catch the tuna fish in the river
= The tuna fish is caught in the river

3.   My teacher punishes me because I forget to collect my homework
      = I am punished by my teacher because I forgot to collect my homework

4.   My dog eats cow bones
= Cow bones are eaten by my dog

5.   I receive some amount of money from my parents in my hometown
= Some amount of money is received from my parents in my hometown

6.   You have to do your homework.
= Your homework have to be done

7.   People must follow the traffic law.
= The traffic law must be followed by people

8.   She should clean the kitchen.
= The kitchen should be cleaned

9.   People can speak English in many countries.
= English can be spoken by people in many countries

10. You may close the gate on time.
= The gate may be closed on time

11. My little brothers played football yesterday.
      = Football was played by my little brother yesterday

12. Shinta read 5 books last year.
= 5 books were read by Shinta last year

13. The writer wrote a beautiful poem this morning.
= A beautiful poem was written by the writer this morning

14. We are learning English with native speaker now.
= English is being learned with native speaker now

15. Indonesia is doing many prodresses .
     = Many prodresses are being done by Indonesia

16. The merchants are selling some daily needs.
     = Some daily needs are being sold by the merchants

17. They have finished their jobs just now.
     = Their jobs have been finished just now

18. Indah has already typed many letters.
     = Many letters have been already typed by Indah

19. Some of the workers had built the building.
     = The building had been built by some of the workers

20. He had washed his car.
     = His car had been washed

FORMING PAST PERFECT PASSIVE


Affirmative Form
Object + had + been + verb3 (past participle)
Question Form
Had + object + been + verb3 (past participle) ?


Change These Sentences into Passive Voice
1.  I had worn blue shoes.
 – Blue shoes had been worn

2.  Joe had cleaned the tables
– The tables had been cleaned by Joe

3.  We had lost the key
– The key had been lost

4.  They had started a fight.
– A fight had been started

5.  I had been reading an article
– An article had been being read

1.      What’s your favorite time of the days and why? Morning/afternoon/evening
Answer: My favorite time of the days is evening because on evening i can gout with friends and buy some snacks.

2.      What do you usually do on Sunday?
Answer: I usually go trip with my family on Sunday.

3.      Which days are you busy during the week?
Answer: I busy during the week is Saturday because there’s a lot of task to do.

4.      What’s your birthday?
Answer: My birthday is October on 30th 2002

5.      Do you watch TV in the morning?
Answer: Yes, I do.

Affirmative Form
Object + may, must, can, could, ought to, should + be + verb3
Question Form
Must, may, can, should, might + object + be + verb3 (past participle)
Something must / can / should... be done by someone at sometime.

Active : Our English teacher may give an exam today.
Passive: An exam may be given by our English teacher today.

Active : Thomas has written many books.
Passive: Many books have been written by Thomas.

Active : Do you have to pay the bill before leaving the restaurant?
Passive: the bill have to be paid before leaving the restaurant?

Active : Juan can give them some information about the job.
Passive: Some information can be given about the job by Juan.
Passive2: They can be given some information about the JOB by Juan.

Active : You must obey the traffic rules.
Passive: The traffic rules must be obeyed.

Quick Exercise

Put the following sentences into passive voice. (Modals)

1.   We may ask him a few questions. 
     =   A few questions may be asked by him.

2.   I can manage a motor car.
      =  A motor car can be managed.

3.   You must inquire the way.
     = The way must be inquired.

4.   He might give you a chance.
      = A chance might be given.

5.   I could show you his house if you would permit me.
       = His house can be shown to you if you would permit me.

6.   I should enjoy a sea-voyage
      = A sea-voyage should be enjoyed.
